A major output of the VSI programme has been development and publication of the Vetronics Infrastructure for Video Over Ethernet (VIVOE) Defence Standard as Def Stan 00-82 Issue 2. The standard describes the mechanisms and protocols that shall be employed to implement the distribution of digital video over an Ethernet infrastructure within Vetronics systems. It is presented in two parts:
Part 0 provides background information, guidance on usage of the protocols and guidance on system issues when implementing a VIVOE system. Part 0 can be downloaded from the DStan website using the link on below.
Part 1 details how the protocols in the VIVOE standard shall be implemented. These include Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP), Session Announcement Protocol (SAP), Session Description Protocol (SDP) and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). It also provides a number of worked examples showing how the RTP headers and SDP descriptions are used for various video formats. Part 1 can be downloaded from the DStan website using the link below.
A key part of any VIVOE system is the Management Information Base (MIB) that is used in combination with SNMP to provide comprehensive configuration, control and monitoring of all VIVOE devices. The MIB is defined in Appendix A of Def Stan 00-82 Part 1 Issue 2. It can also be downloaded as a standalone SMIv2 text file using the link below.
The VIVOE standard was previously published as Issue 1 in November 2010. A document has been produced that lists the technical differences in Issue 2 from Issue 1 to assist in identifying where implementations following the Issue 1 version may need to be updated.
The VIVOE standard was initially published as a single part Interim standard in August 2009. A document has also been produced that lists the main technical differences between Issue 1 and the Interim version to assist in identifying where implementations following the Interim version may need to be updated.
